The advantage of a local counter over a shipping box is that you can handle the body first and you have somewhere to go back to when something goes wrong. Ask three things when you call: is it in stock today, does the price include the US manufacturer warranty, and who handles their repairs.
That second question is the one people skip. A price hundreds under everyone else usually means gray market stock — genuine Pentax gear imported outside the manufacturer's official US distribution channel.
